Number of player: 4 players, divided into two teams of two (North/South against East/West).

Goal of the game : The first team to reach at least 501 points wins the game. If both teams exceed 501 points, the one with the highest score wins the game.

I - General:

 

Belote is played with a deck of 32 cards (without the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6) clockwise. 
 

Order and value of cards:

​

No Trump: Ace (11pts), 1 (10pts), King (4pts), Queen (3pts), Jack (2pts), 9-8-7 (0pts)

Asset: Jack (20pts), 9 (14pts), Ace (11pts), Ten (10pts), King (4pts), Queen (3pts), 8-7(0pts)

 

II - The distribution of cards in Belote:

The dealer is chosen at random for the first round. For the following round, the player placed on his left becomes the dealer and so on for the following rounds. Cards are dealt clockwise starting with the player to the left of the dealer. Each player receives 5 cards then 1 card is turned over and placed in the middle of the table, it is "turned over".

 

III - Fulfilling your belote contract:

The player to the left of the dealer is the first to speak. He must decide whether to "take" or "pass".

"Take" means that the player thinks that thanks to his cards, the middle card (which defines the trump suit in the first choice round of the contract) and the two more cards he will receive (8 cards in all ), his team can score 82 points or more.

If a player passes, the player to his left must decide whether to take or not. If in the first round of bidding no player takes, a new round begins during which each player can decide the color of Trump, except the color which was in the first place proposed.

 

IV - The course of a game of Belote

A round consists of 8 rounds, in which each player plays one card each time.

The player to the left of the dealer plays first. The player who wins the trick plays the first card of the next trick and so on.

 

The first player can play any card, but subsequent players must follow certain rules:

​

• follow to the requested color if possible (the one defined by the first card played),
   

• if calling to the requested suit is not possible, the player must cut with a trump (if he can),
   

• if a player's partner is trump (his laid card is the highest), and if the player does not have the suit to follow, then he can play any card (he is allowed not to play trump ),
   

• otherwise, play any card,
   

• players playing trumps must go up on another trump already played if they can.

 

The player who placed the highest card wins the trick (trick). Trump cards are always stronger than others

V - The counting of points in belote:

​

The scores are calculated for each team: the points of each card won by the team are added together. The last trick is worth 10 additional points (“le 10 de der”). The total value of the 32 cards in the deck added together is always worth 152 points. If we add the "10 der", that makes 162 points.

The one-inning contract is successful if the taking team has achieved a minimum of 82 points (excluding belote-rebelote). In this case, the two teams score their total points respectively.

Please note: if a Belote/Rebelote is announced, then the objective of the contract is no longer 82 points but 92 points. The team having announced the Belote/Rebelote wins 20 Bonus points in all cases.

​

If a team wins all the tricks ("capot"), that makes 252 points (the 10 of der then being worth 100 points instead of 10). If the contract has not been carried out (this is called "being in it"), then the team that has taken scores 0 points plus possibly the points of the Belote. The opposing team scores 162 points plus possibly the points of Belote.
